At 3dcart, we are fortunate to have some serious talent at the core of our Team. In our Employee Spotlight series, we aim to give you the chance to get to know us a little better, and learn about the great people behind the scenes who keep the wheels turning. Every month, we'll introduce you to one of our best.

This month, we're featuring Alexis Sanchez, Business Operations Analyst and part of the 3dcart family for 5 years.

What are your duties at 3dcart?

I collect and analyze all types of data (like employee productivity, server notifications, and trends in sales and marketing) to help inform management’s decisions.

How did you get into the field and arrive at your current position?

I always had a fascination on how things work, and working formulas and data sets sort of came naturally. I started tinkering with loan calculating spreadsheets when I worked in mortgage sales, but it was just a fascination at the time. I moved onto a few positions at Carnival Cruise Lines until I found my niche as an administrative assistant. I came into the position being taught to calculate commissions almost manually, but after some tinkering with formulas, filters and arrays, found ways to dump data in one sheet and get my answers in another. After many years and life choices, I found myself interviewing at 3dcart for a technical support entry position. My strength with spreadsheets stood out and as a support rep, spreadsheets (of the CSV import variety) kind of became my thing. I then advanced through the ranks as a team lead, then a supervisor. Throughout my time here, my director, Walter Quinn, would challenge me with different projects of increasing complexity until he felt I should specialize in metrics.

What do you find most challenging about your job here?

The most challenging aspect of my job is the need to not just think outside the box, but to literally find multiple angles of attack for the same data set to produce the best results in the most efficient manner over time. I am constantly revising my data links, formulas, methods and processes for maximum efficiency.

What's your favorite thing about 3dcart?

My favorite thing here is the tenacity of our team. Just like how I am constantly working on improving my work, I have seen us improve our processes to meet the needs of our merchants and team mates.

Who is/are your favorite 3dcart client(s)?

It has been a long time since I’ve interacted with our clients directly, but I remember having a great time with Lambert Vet Supply, TooTimid, Adventures in Homebrewing, and NEEDforSEAT.

How do you personally apply 3dcart's Core Values (Results Oriented, Reliable, Customer Focused, and Responsive)?

I personally apply 3dcart’s Core Values to my work by reliably responding to my customers (management in this case) with the results they need for them to get our team to reliably respond to their customers (our merchants now) with actionable results.

What piece of advice would you offer a brand new online store owner?

I would recommend getting all your ducks in a row. Running a business has its own set of requirements, but making sure you have all the necessary layers in places saves you from a headache. And use support! We have a great group here, and they will answer your questions over tickets, chats and phones (where available).

What gets you through a rough day?

A rough day requires a moment of contemplation with nature. We have a beautiful pond behind the office here, where local fish and birds sometimes get close enough for me to say "Hello."

What are you most proud of, both in and outside of your career?

Outside of work, I’ve got my wife, and I’m so proud to be her husband and together, we’ve got four lovely children that make us super proud! At work, my wife is data, and my kids are the reports I make. I’m proud of what I’ve managed to do with them, and have a hard time archiving them when they fall out of use.

How do you unwind after work?

Depending on my mood, I would either watch a movie or TV, or play a game.

How do you spend your off time? Hobbies and interests?

When I’m not literally expanding my horizons, I watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with my family. When I get time away from the kids, I watch Rick and Morty.

Where are you from?

I was born in Miami, Florida and have lived most of my life in Carol City (it is part of what is now called Miami Gardens).

Do you have a personal philosophy, motto, or favorite quote?

My favorite quote is "Always forward," spoken by Pop in the Luke Cage series. It reminds me of the philosophy of Kaizen, which is my adopted philosophy of constantly improving my work to positively affect my company and our clients.

What's the weirdest or funniest thing you've ever seen or had happen to you?

It’s a mix of weird (on my part) and funny (because of the seeming randomness of my reaction) sometimes, but sometimes I don’t notice that some things people say are actually attempts at humor. Or I misunderstand a conversation or request and totally run away with my response.

What is your dream vacation?

It's a little cliché, but relaxing somewhere breezy overlooking the a large body of water with my wife at my side and a fruity drink in my hand.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

In a perfect world, any island would do. Or a house on a large plot of land with a pool and plenty of land for me to grow fruits, vegetables and have a chicken coop.

If you could have any super power, what would you choose?

Precognition. The obvious benefit would be that I would win the lottery to get set for life, but I would still work, but since I have precognition, my whole process would be streamlined so I wouldn’t have to constantly improve anything, it would just be perfect the first time around!

Is there anything you'd like to add?

Sure! I was taught some time ago that circumstances are just circles you are currently standing in. If you don’t like the circle you are in, considering "Always Forward." With determination, you won’t ever be stuck, you just need to move forward until you get your breakthrough!
